The Investigator
Evelyn strides out of the room without explanation, her footsteps fading into the distance. She comes back shortly after, holding a sealed evidence bag with a bloodstained item, which she silently sets on the table, her eyes fixed on the witness to gauge their response.Evelyn thrusts the photo onto the table with a sharp motion, her hand following to land firmly beside it. Fixing the witness with an unwavering stare, she points to the jacket in the image and demands a clear answer about their location during the night of the crime.Evelyn’s interrogation halts abruptly when a uniformed officer bursts into the room, visibly shaken, and delivers a hastily scribbled note. The ominous red-ink threat, “Back off this case now,” only strengthens her resolve as she clenches the note tightly and refocuses on the witness with renewed intensity.The witness suddenly shifts in his seat, his eyes darting toward the exit before springing up and sprinting toward the door. Evelyn immediately leaps into action, pursuing him through the precinct as the startled officers quickly move to intercept his escape route.
