Evelyn hears the faint sound of quickened footsteps echoing further inside. Without hesitation, she pushes the door open and steps cautiously into the shadowy hallway, her fingers brushing the grip of her holstered firearm.Evelyn takes a steadying breath and addresses Clara with a soothing voice. "Clara, you’re not alone in this. Please, let me in so we can talk. I just want to help you feel safe."Deciding against entering right away, Evelyn carefully circles to the side of the house, her eyes narrowing as she peers through the rain-dappled glass for any movement or clues about Clara's whereabouts.Hearing the unexpected crash, Evelyn pivots sharply and notices a dark silhouette disappearing into the adjacent yard. Determined to uncover the intruder, she dashes through the wet streets, her heart pounding in sync with the falling rain.
